The NORD SALVATGE (wild north) Trekking is a 5-day circular route that runs through one of the wildest and least traveled areas of the Pyrenees: the Marimanha massifs and the majestic Mont Valier. To the north of Pallars Sobirà (Catalunya) and Couserans or Western Ariege (Occitània).
Inhospitable, wild terrain, bear dwelling ... we will walk through the most authentic Pyrenees, but always on obvious trails and terrain lacking technical difficulty. Lakes, vertiginous summits, high hills that have been historical passages for shepherds and smugglers. Crystalline lakes, the easternmost glacier in the mountain range .... The queen's jewel is Mont Valier, the iconic summit of l'Ariege, undoubtedly one of the most beautiful mountains in the Pyrenees, ascended, according to the old chronicles, in the 5th century by the monk Valier. The summit of Mont Valier, the highest point of the crossing, has a height of 2,838 m.
We will walk through two of the largest natural reserves in the Pyrenees: the Parc Natural de l'Alt Pirineu and the Parc naturel régional des Pyrénées ariégeoises. Few are the towns that we will find, but all of them have their special magic, up to Montgarri, currently depopulated. The populations that we will find lost in the middle of these majestic mountains are Alòs d'Isil, Aunac, Couflens de Betmajor and Estours.
